If you're not sure what HoneyPOP paper is all about, watch this video - it gives a lot of good details about using the paper with the stamps. Keep in mind that it's an old video and the stamp sets that they are talking about are NOT new. If they look familiar to you, it's because we've had them before. Fresh Goods reminds me of the month after Christmas. I don't know about you, but I get in this cleaning/organizing frenzy where I want all the Christmas decorations and gifts put away so I can have my simple, clean house back! Plus, with all the cold weather that hits us in January, I begin looking forward to those early Spring days. Fresh Goods has a great color palette, clean/crisp designs, and a few flowers which hint at touch of Spring.

We came across some of this special food that makes them fly faster so Santa can deliver all his presents...all you need to do is sprinkle it in your yard on Christmas Eve. Knock Outs - Punches by American Crafts

Introducing American Crafts’ new Knock Outs Border Punches !

The Knock Outs Border Punches come in a compact carrying case with one punch base and six interchangeable punches.

Underneath each punch are "wings".

The wings are small gray pieces that fit on either side of the punch. See the holes below? That's where they snap in. The wings can only fit in one way, so there's no chance of messing it up :) The actual punch fits in the middle, with the words Knock Outs always facing you.

Once everything is in place, it looks like an ordinary border punch...right?!?

When you're finished, everything goes right back in to the clear carrying case. What we love about this product is that it's LESS weight than carrying six border punches AND it's way more compact in terms of storage.

Okay, I admit it. I said I would never buy Valentine's paper for the store before Christmas. But...I just couldn't resist this line. First, it doesn't scream Valentine's Day. Second, it's perfect for any theme...did you see the dogs on it (it says sloppy kisses coming your way)? And, really...let's just put it out there...I'm a sucker for anything printed on kraft paper. Combine kraft paper and Jillibean Soup designs...and...well...that's all she wrote :)

Lickety Split chipboard albums by Bazzill

We are excited to introduce the new Lickety Split chipboard albums by Bazzill! They have raw chipboard covers, which means they can be painted, sprayed, decorated, covered with paper...WHATEVER! They come in two sizes...8"x8" and 9" x 12".

Personally, I think it would make a perfect Christmas Wish List album. You could keep everyone's wish list, along with pictures, all in one central location. Sure does beat all the notes and lists I have scattered all over the place!

Three-ring refill pages fit inside. As you can see, they are available in both sizes, and each pack contains a fun assortment of styles...not just your traditional 8"x8" or 9"x12" pages. Some fold and others hold vertical and horizontal all on one page. (Look at the picture closely...see the picture that is being held up?)

For example, see the first sample size below...it fits the 8"x8" album and says 12"x6" with FOLD written on one of the lines? That means the FOLD line actually folds over so that it fits in the 8" album. (See the photo above for a visual of another fold.) So, in this example, the storage page would hold THREE 4" wide by 6" tall layouts/designs/pictures/journaling blocks.

To complement the 8"x8" albums, OR to make your own album without a binder, take a look at the dividers. Bazzill made the dividers in a nice, sturdy chipboard. Thankfully, they were nice enough to ALSO provide paper in the SAME shape. This makes covering those cute tabs an easy task! The paper covers come in Quicksand (tan/brown), Ruby Slipper (red), Kiwi (green) and Natural (ivory) - all shown below.

Our long awaited shipment of Cameos is finally HERE!

We placed a *very large* order of Cameos back in July, and since then, most were reserved by those paying their $10 non-refundable deposit. As of this morning, there are FOUR Cameos still available. So...to all those people who have been calling and emailing...these are for you!

I know...four machines isn't exactly going to fulfill all the requests. Don't fret though. If you don't get one from this shipment (or if you want hubby to buy you one for Christmas!), we have already ordered a second shipment that is scheduled to arrive in November. You can either take your chances OR put down a $10 non-refundable deposit. With your deposit, you are guaranteed a machine from that shipment.

And...if you are already a Silhouette or Silhouette SD owner and are NOT buying the Cameo...you are definitely going to want to try out the new blades and mats. Both new products WILL work in your machine :) Trust me when I say that you will LOVE LOVE LOVE the new mats!!!

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the Silhouette CAMEO™ is an electronic cutting tool for personal use. Like a home printer, it plugs into your PC or Mac® with a simple USB cable. However, instead of printing it uses a small blade to cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, fabric and more up to 12" wide and 10 feet long. Our second annual Consignment Sale was a success!

It's always a fun event, for several reasons.

First, from a staff perspective, it's a LOT of hard work. BUT...it's fun because we rarely get to work with all the staff at once. In case you haven't noticed, we actually LIKE working together and have fun in the process. This is one of those events where we need all hands on deck.

One question that popped up over a dozen times was "Is this a going out of business sale?" Well...HELLO...if we WERE going out of business - which we are NOT - why would we be selling our customers' products? This is an event where we allow the CUSTOMERS the chance to sell their old stuff and upgrade it with NEW stuff. It's a win/win event...it's good for our customers and it's good for our store. (In all fairness, I will cut some slack to all the new people who wandered in after seeing the SALE banner.)

So...as customers bring in all their boxes, bags, laundry baskets, buckets and tubs full of products, we place them in the crop room.

Then, we start sorting the items, one by one, in categories. All the punches on one table, dies on another, totes over there, etc. etc. This is the step that requires many, many hours. And, it's constant process of sorting, resorting and sorting again. It's sorta like cleaning out your closet...it just never seems to end and always gets worse before it gets better :)

We work right up until opening time making sure the store is ready for extra traffic. The SALE banner goes up, the second register is opened, the air conditioner gets set a little lower and the staff is updated with the latest information so that we can best answer your questions and reduce your wait time at checkout. It was raining this year, so we let our customers form a line in the store. Who wants to wait in the rain?!? The OPEN sign gets turned on at 10 and the craziness begins! (The picture below was taken in the afternoon because I couldn't even get close to the crop room in the morning. It's always super packed in the morning as the early bird is trying to find her worm.)

The sale lasts from Saturday to Monday. The entire time you are buying, we are straightening up the products, rearranging them in their containers and spreading things out so that they can be seen better. And...when I say we...I am referring to our staff AND our wonderful set of volunteers. Our volunteers did a great job...THANK YOU!

When the sale ended Monday evening, our work was only half complete. We had a private crop coming in at 10 a.m. the next morning, so the room had to be emptied and cleaned. Early Tuesday morning, Anna, Michelle and I came in early and sorted every last item back into their original boxes. We were seriously busting butt!

In the end, the sale was a huge success. The average seller made $179.59 that they can now use to buy new products in our store through the end of the year. The items that the sellers did not want back will be donated to a local elementary school. The art department, teachers and after school program (run by the Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation) will all benefit. (We've already made one trip with 8 boxes of supplies! The rest will be delivered next week.)

A special thanks to Anna and Michelle who worked many hours setting up and 'tearing down' and to our entire staff for making this event run smoothly.

For those who shopped the sale items, we know you found some incredible deals. Thank you for your continued support!

Here's something fun for you. Made out of wood, these storage boxes are perfect for Christmas or any other time of the year. Paint 'em, Mod Podge 'em, cover 'em in paper...WHATEVER works! First up is the 12 drawer storage box.

Kaiser printed this paper (part of the December 25th collection) so that the squares are a perfect fit on the 12 drawer storage box. (I love things like this that require less brain power!)

Here are a few other examples of the 12 drawer storage boxes...two are decorated for Christmas and the other has a sewing theme.

Make Your Own Flowers

From scrapbook pages to cards to altered items, flowers are probably the single most used embellishment. We discovered a punch system that allows you to make your own flowers with a few easy steps.

There are a variety of flowers you can make and each one comes with a full color instruction sheet.

Each flower is made using a series of punches. Each punch, however, is used to make multiple flowers. For example, the punches used for the Sunflower can also be used to make the Poinsettia. (Below is a picture of the punches before they made their way on to the empty slat wall in the background.)

The concept is easy. Punch, shape and assemble. First, you punch out the required shapes (the instruction form tells you exactly how many pieces you'll need). For these flowers, thinner paper - as opposed to the heavier cardstock - is recommended as it's easier to manipulate.

Then, you "shape" the petals by using the craft mat and tools in the tool kit. Using the stylus (with a ball tip on the end), you gently "roll" it in a circular motion which causes the paper petal to curl...thus, giving it some dimension.

Next, you use the tweezers to pinch and bend back the edges of the petals. Again, this is all spelled out, step-by-step, in the instruction sheet. Instruction sheets are free with purchase as well as on the McGill website. This is what it looks like after you've shaped all the petals. Next step...glue it together. Again, the instructions guide you each step of the way.

While sitting in the crop room yesterday, Anna made this beautiful poinsettia the very first time she used the punches. And...everyone who came in to visit oohed and aahhhed over it :)

Here's a video that shows you how to make the Rose. I promise that it will be the most riveting 6 minutes and 48 seconds of your day. Well, maybe I shouldn't promise . But...it will show you just how easy it is to make such stunning flower embellishments :)

Attention Card Makers!

One of the most rewarding things about going to CHA is getting to see products first hand. As we all know, products look different in person than they do on the computer. Also...you don't always get the "jist" of the product by just seeing it online. The items from our newest vendor, Susan Louise, fall into this category. I heard about this company from a fellow store owner in Wisconsin, but I just didn't fully appreciate the line of products until I saw them in person.

Like this card? It was made in about 5 minutes!

Let me explain how it works. The images come on clear acetate sheets that look like this...

1. Choose a background paper for your image. Lighter papers work best because they make the image pop.
2. Using scissors, cut the image you want from the clear sheet.
3. Cut a window in your card to "frame" the image. This can be done with punches, templates, Silhouette or any of the basic shape dies by Lifestyle Crafts/Spellbinders/Sizzix. Make sure the window is big enough for the image to show through. (tip: make sure your image and background paper are cut bigger than your window...this allows you to glue everything down properly) If you like to ink edges, go ahead and ink the edges of your window.
4. Layer your card window on top...then your clear image behind it...then the background paper.

That's it...SO very simple!

Or...if you want to make it even easier...simply cut your image and attach it to your card with brads or eyelets. Inking the edges of the acetate will give it a more stylish look.

If you're a visual person like me...come in the store and check out the seahorse card on display. Touch it, feel it and see for yourself how very nice these images look on a finished card.

I must tell you...before this paper even made it out of the back office, the staff have been oohing and aahhhing over it. It is absolutely beautiful!

Yes, I know it's July and, yes, I know it's early to start thinking about Christmas. But, is it?!? Seriously, we are less than 5 months away! If you've been in any big box stores, you know they are already gearing up for the holidays. (After all, school supply displays were set up in June and the kids were barely out of school.)

Card makers...you know you are guilty. You say every year that you're going to start EARLY this year. And, what happens? (Don't worry...you are not alone...we are here to HELP you!).

So...here we are. Ready to jump into August. It's a perfect time to start your cards and Christmas projects ;-)

Silhouette Cameo

As you may know, we attended the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) tradeshow this past week in Chicago. You can thank us later for bringing the heat wave home with us :)

The show was FABULOUS...and, even though the temperatures outside hovered at 100 degrees, the main theme inside was Christmas. Let me just say there are some really great Christmas collections coming soon. And, as a matter of fact, our first three Christmas lines have already shipped and are on the way to Virginia Beach :) Christmas card makers...start your engines...

The photos on Facebook that generated the most buzz were about the new Silhouette machined called Cameo. I hope I answered all the emails, but I will touch on those answers again in this email so that we're all on the same page. If you have any further questions, please comment here or shoot me an email at jen at beachscrapbooks dot com. (Have to write it like that to avoid getting spammed.)

So...here we go!

The new Silhouette machine is called CAMEO. You can now cut a true 12"x12" piece of paper!

The design is a bit more sleek looking, but all in all, the machine insides looks identical to the current model. The Cameo is expected to arrive in October, and MSRP is $299.99.

Just like the old machine, it comes with 50 free shapes. The Cameo also comes with a template to make your own "front". Look at the pictures above and below...see how one is green and the other blue? You can use the template to make that any color or pattern you want just by cutting your own paper.

Meet Jacob. He's holding the 12"x12" cutting mat for the Cameo. Price on the mat is still TBD. And...speaking of mats...Silhouette has re-designed the cutting mats so that they are BETTER and last LONGER. I never knew how much science goes into how the glue is applied to the mats! They will be in our store shortly (for the Silhouette and Silhouette SD machines).

Holy HOTNESS! Here's an example of a piece of cardstock cut out using the Cameo.

And, for those questioning whether a new blade will be introduced, the answer is YES. Instead of three different caps, the new blade will have a ratchet system. It will not have interchangeable caps. You will simply turn the dial on the blade for a deeper cut. The nice thing about this blade is that it will work with the Cameo (obviously) and all older machines. PLUS...your blades that you currently own, will also work on the Cameo. All blades will work on all machines. The new blades, however, will give you a deeper cut so that you won't have to double cut your images. YAY!!! Like the new Cameo machine, these blades will also be available in October.

Another new, exciting product are Fabric Inks. Using your Silhouette, you can make templates for applying Fabric Inks to fabric. See the fabric album? The flourish was painted on. The canvas bag and shirt underneath the album? Also painted on. And...see Jacob in the above picture holding the new mat? His shirt was made using the Fabric Inks. Think screen printing. Think CRAZY COOL. This is a GREAT way for you to get all kinds of color on your surface. Coming soon.

I know it's blurry, but you can see the different colors of Fabric Inks offered below. There's also a starter kit (shown above) that will be available for purchase.

I guess it's time to get that Christmas wish list going, eh?!?

Kid's Camp in August

We're excited to announce that there will be TWO art camps for kids next month at Beach Scrapbooks.

The first session (August 8-10) will be taught by Melissa...the second (August 15-17) by Anna.

The sessions are $65 per week OR $25 per class...this way, you can sign up for all three days each week or choose the days that fit your schedule.

I know it's early, but we are lucky enough to be one of the very first stores (I think there are only two others), who received Authentique's GLOWING collection as part of a test market.

If you haven't heard about Authentique, they are a brand new paper crafting company, and we have all FIVE of their lines. Reaction to the new collections have been great so far...customers love the thick quality of the papers and the prices of the embellishments ($1.99 and $0.99).

School's out for summer!

...and several elementary schools, including Old Donation Center.

Many of you saw/heard me talking about this book for my daughter's teacher. I used the Unibind and added a decorated page from each of the students :)

My daughter also made a paint/paper collage for her teacher. Mrs. Sims loves polar bears and always tells the kids that her classroom is a No Stress Zone....so...my daughter came up with this idea all by herself! A friend drew the polar bear (thanks, Mary!), and I gave her a few suggestions. But, other than that, she picked the paper out (Echo Park's Splash line), cut, painted and glued everything. I think she did a pretty great job!
